Our Little Produce

Apparently our bundle of joy is approximately the size of a bell pepper, head to butt.  If there’s any chance that the kid has Mike’s genetics for leg length, I’m not sure what fruit or vegetable that would be compared to!

One minor update is that we cancelled our appointment for the second trimester ultrasound at the genetic testing facitiliy on the 25th and instead are waiting until my next OB appointment on July 8th. I had thought the ultrasound was part of the integrated screening we started in the first trimester but since it’s not and insurance will not cover it at either place, it would have cost about twice as much as if we waited to do it at the OB’s office. I can wait an extra couple of weeks–that much more time to be sure of what we’re seeing…or not seeing!

Did You Hear That?

Yesterday was another quick OB appointment–weight, blood pressure, baby’s heartbeat (still racing at 150 bpm!).  During the exam, the doctor smiled briefly after finally locating the heartbeat and getting the heartrate.   She said,  “Did you hear that swoosh sound?  That was the baby moving.”  Wow!  Unfortunately, I didn’t feel anything so better luck next time!

17 Weeks!

Happy 17 weeks!  Apparently, our little one is now approximately 5 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces.  I should be able to feel some kicking and movement any day now… that is, if I can differentiate it from gas and “round ligament” pain (nice).  And I’m pretty sure I’ll be “popping” soon since the belly I now go to bed with is similar to the one I wake up with–no excuses now!  I’ve also been experiencing more bouts of discomfort and lethargy this week so I’m guessing some rapid growth is going on.

I just read that dreams will be more vivid these days, most likely from waking up frequently and probably within a dream cycle.  I can attest to that, although I’m a little disappointed that my dreams seem pretty boring and mundane upon reflection.  Huh… I wonder what that means.  Mike, on the other hand, dreamt of saving two little frightened kittens from crossing a busy street last night.  According to our favorite baby website, that means he’s in tune with his parental instincts.  Of course, in the dream, he tried to corral them and get them across the street safely but ended up having to wait until I showed up and we put them in our car and drove them home.   Analyze that!

More Good News

Just heard from the doctor’s office and the results of the latest blood tests are still pointing in a good direction!  The “big” ultrasound on the 25th should be the last round of these tests.  Plus we should be able to find out the gender then!  Taking bets now…
