Baby Shower

Wow, what a week it has been! I finally wrapped up my busy time at work at September’s close, which also marked my mental transition to wrapping up any major projects before my maternity leave begins. But even more importantly, Mike and I got to see both our moms and older sisters over an extended weekend visit that included an incredible baby shower! My sister led the charge but everyone was able to put their special mark on the celebration and it was more than I could have ever hoped for. There was a great variety of food, the company was fun, and I like to think everyone had a good time. Not to mention seeing all the cute stuff for the baby! I really do feel so lucky and blessed by everyone’s generosity, not just from the gifts but also their time and effort.

With all this celebrating, I have to say it was a bit of a relief when the house was quiet again. I just can’t relax when there are guests in the house, even when it’s “just” family, and of course they don’t NEED me to do anything, but you know how it goes. I was pretty much running on empty the whole time, already starting on “low” from the days leading up to the weekend and I’m sure a little bit of that had to do with, oh, being 8 months pregnant. Starting last night, I freaked myself out when I realized I hadn’t felt as much movement from the baby. I tried my usual tricks, like alternating what side I was sleeping on and rubbing my belly but I’d only get a couple twitches here and there. The twitches were somewhat reassuring but I still didn’t like it. I decided to wait just a bit longer before calling my OB and engage in my normal routine by going to the gym and then having breakfast and finally around 9:30am, I started feeling his normal lopsided-inducing movements and rolls. Of course, it hasn’t stopped since then so I feel especially silly now for being so worried! I guess the little guy just needed his own R&R from the weekend…
