We have moved on from the seemingly simple question of “why?”. “Why” has evolved to “why not?”, which does come out a little more grown-up, although it’s not always executed with proper usage. Here is another example of the latest foray into reason and logic. We’ll start with a familiar topic.
Me: “Maxon, it’s time to wash hands for dinner.”
Maxon: (*bonus toddler retort*) “Buuuuuuuut I don’t waaaaaaant tooooo!”
Me: (no-nonsense tone of voice) “Maxon, it’s time to wash hands for dinner.”
(Slow, but dutiful walk to bathroom. Hands finally under water.)
Maxon: “What happens if we DON’T wash hands?”
We have had to threaten toy removal, hypothetically withhold treats, and almost not go for an outing. I don’t like to play the heavy here but I sense we are setting the stage for future crime-and-punishment scenarios.
